Finca Casa Balaguer: A Family Winery Championing Local Grapes

Finca Casa Balaguer is a family-run winery based in Alicante, Spain. Led by the dynamic winemaking team of Andres Carull and Marta Ribera, they've established themselves as one of the most respected producers in the DO Alicante region over the past decade.

Natural Wines with Local Character:

Their philosophy centers around minimal intervention and maximum expression of the local grape varieties. Monastrell, Alicante Bouschet, and Malvasia grapes are grown organically on their 20 hectares of land. Half the vineyards sit at a high altitude (over 600 meters) surrounding the town of Villena, while the other half bask in the Mediterranean sunshine near La Mata Natural Park.

Respecting the Environment:

Organic practices are paramount at Finca Casa Balaguer. They use natural methods like pheromones and traps to manage pests, ensuring a healthy environment for the grapes.

Minimal Intervention Winemaking:

The winemaking process reflects their dedication to natural expression. The use of filtration, fining, and sulfites is kept to a minimum, allowing the unique character of the grapes and the land to shine through in the final product.

A Modern Garage Winery:

Despite their success, Finca Casa Balaguer retains a sense of their humble beginnings. They embody the spirit of a "garage winery," crafting exceptional wines with a focus on quality and respect for tradition.

In their own words:

"We believe our grapes should express themselves naturally, so it is our job as winemakers to provide them with the best possible environment in which to grow. The less intervention from us in the winery the better, so our wines can truly reflect the character of our wonderful land."
