Loureiro, Aphros, Vinho Verde, Portugal 2022

Loureiro, Aphros, Vinho Verde, Portugal 2022

This Loureiro from Aphros is a light and refreshing white wine with an ABV of 11%. It offers a delicate bouquet of citrus fruits, such as lemon and lime, along with floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom. On the palate, it is crisp and lively with a balanced acidity that complements the fruity flavors. The wine finishes with a clean and refreshing aftertaste.

Aphros, a biodynamic winery in Vinho Verde, is the passion project of architect Vasco Croft. The winery's commitment to health and sustainability is evident in their biodynamic farming practices, which involve using natural methods to cultivate the vines. By introducing animals like horses and sheep, and utilizing natural water sources, Aphros creates a harmonious ecosystem that promotes healthy soil and vines. The wines produced at Aphros are not only delicious but also reflect the health and vitality of the land. Some wines are even produced in a medieval cellar without the use of electricity, further emphasizing their dedication to natural and sustainable winemaking.

What is Natural Wine?

Natural wines are made from grapes that are cultivated either organically or biodynamically. The main difference is the vinification process. Natural wines, during vinification, don't use any artificial chemicals—nothing is added and removed from the grapes, unlike organic and biodynamic which used chemicals in their winemaking process.

Natural wines are low-intervention and unprocessed wine.

The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend no more than 6 medium-sized glasses of wine (175ml each) per person per week, equivalent to 6 bottles per person per month. See NHS guidelines.
